I'd just like to add a few necessary bits to the tips you've already done (which are good):

1. Worst case scenario is you get podkilled, so always make sure you have a clone raring to go, that will cover your current skill points. You don't want to lose valuable training because you haven't updated your clone.

3. You don't go into warp until you've reached about 75% of your maximum speed, so if your ship takes a long time to reach 75%, you could still be attacked and destroyed before you warp out. The trick is to watch for hostiles entering your system, and dock until they leave. Set your standings to pirate corporations and alliances to -10, so that they show up with a red icon when they enter system. Take the time to get to know the local hostiles and set standings appropriately, and you can save yourself a lot of grief later on.

6. If you stay even a minute too long at a single safespot, be aware that they can warp to that location and wait for you to return to it, thereby ambushing you at your 'safe spot'. No spot is safe. If you really want to be safe, then dock at a station, or get the hell out of the system. Or use a cloak, as per #7.

Keep up the good work. :)

Its not half as scary as everyone makes it out to be, snag a frigate and go get blown up a few times for the excitement alone.

I, for one, really appreciate you putting together these tips, and will abide by them closely when I get brave enough to step out of the safe zone. Thanks.
